A Trip to Patagonia is a journey to a stunning a beautiful area of the world
I will be the first to admit that when I travel, its all about what I can see, do and accomplish during my voyage, after all if I wanted to see beaches and sit on my backside I would stay at home, after all the area of Australia I am from has beaches that are a match for any around the world!
Having said that though, sometimes there are places, and sites that crop up that do shout out to me to slow down, relax, unwind and simply revel in the openess, the freedom, and the unique atmosphere a place has to offer. One of those place is Patagonia in South America. The Glaciers, Snow Capped Mountains, Wooded and Open Valleys, and ever incredible Lagos are a different enough site from what I am used to that spending a few days simply relaxing and unwinding here while I am travelling sounds more that a little enticing .
There are several ways to enjoy a place, and get in some decent R&R, two of the most popular being resorts or lodges that allow you to put down some roots, enjoy the perks of the property you are staying at and explore the surrounds at your leisure.
The other is to cruise. A Cruise lets you set down in one spot, and let your hotel take you from place to place .. for lack of a better description. Allowing you to visit a number of locales without the bother or need to live out of a suitcase or journey continually by bus or overland to get between places.
Patagonia is a place that you can do both, and one of the more incredible properties and cruise operators have helped us put together a package to show you just how!

Exterior view of Remota, a luxury property inPatagonia near Puerto Natales (Chile)
The Remota, is a luxury hotel, that for those wanting to spend some idle time in Patagonia i sthe place to stay. While the hotel prides istelf on being a property of luxury and indulgence, they are not at all fond of the star system, and don’t like being pegged as a certain quality. For those whom are accustomed to five star hotels, and even some four star hotels though, I don’t think you will have any trouble accomodating to the Remota and its standards of care. All of Remota’s buildings are in perfect harmony with the environment and the local culture, from its well-recognised sustainable architecture, to the way that all the more than 30 excursions –offered daily – are restructured and created so that they cause minimum impact to the local ecosystem.

A Stay at Remota gives unparalleled access to the wilderness regions of Patagonia, as well as the ability to visit the regional hub of Puerto Natales, or go wildlife viewing
Australis Cruises though have no qualms about labelling themselves as a five star cruise line. Cruising ex-Puerto Natales and Ushia, the Australis offers one of the best ways to explore Cape Horn, its incredible array of scenery, its abundant wildlife and its amazing locales.
