TURKEY: ANZAC Day Commemoration Tours

Few things loom larger in the Australian Psyche than the services and valiance shown by the troops at the Battles on the Gallipoli Peninsula – the area that is popularly seen as t he first theatre of war that Australia fought as a united nation. Option 1: The Seargent, 7 Nights / 8 Days

Tonight don’t miss the optional Turkish Folklore evening. Overnight Istanbul  Boutique  Galata Istanbul Hotel (B)Day 3 Tuesday 21th AprilBursa Today you head to Pamukkale, passing through rural Turkey and ancient Bursa where you will visit the famous Grand Mosque and explore the Silk Bazaar. Overnight Pamukkale 5  star   Colossae Thermal Hotel (B, D)Day 4 Wednesday 22th AprilPamukkale This morning we will visit the magnificent white calcium terraces, known as the Travertines, in Pamukkale where we also tour the ancient city of Hierapolis. Take a dip, amongst ancient columns, in the hot springs that were used in Roman times for their therapeutic powers. Then head for Kusadasi where will enjoy a display of locally handcrafted leather goods. Overnight Kuşadası – Boutique Ilayda Avantgarde Hotel (B)Day 5 Thursday 23th AprilEphesus Absorb yourself in history today with a guided tour of Ephesus and a visit to the site of the Temple of Artemis. Feel the mystical atmosphere of the ancient city and theatre. Carpet weaving has long traditions in Turkey and at a carpet village we learn how carpets are made by hand and what determines their value. Overnight Kuşadası   Boutique  Ilayda Avantgarde Hotel (B) Day 6 Friday 24th AprilPergamon and Troy– NO accommodation (spending the night at Anzac cove till dawn service) Today we step back in time as we visit tour the magnificent acropolis of Pergamon. Its impressive temples and library made Pergamon a renowned cultural and political centre in its time. Later in the day we tour Homer’s famous Troy, home of the famed Trojan Horse. We then cross the Dardanelles and  the remainder of the evening is free until we head to the Dawn Service site as soon as it is opened to the public.  Here we will spend the night in nervous anticipation of the Dawn Service at 5:30 a.m. (B) Day 7 Saturday 25th AprilANZAC Day at Gallipoli Awake before sun rise for the ANZAC Day Dawn Service. We become aware of the almost deafening silence as the moving service to commemorate our fallen forefathers on this special day begins. You will then have the chance to attend the Australian or New Zealand Memorial service before a late afternoon drive back to Istanbul. Overnight Istanbul Boutique  Galata Istanbul Hotel – Day 8 Sunday 26th AprilIstanbul After breakfast, our tour concludes and we say goodbye to our new friends. (B)

Option 2: The Major, 7 Nights / 8 Days

Day 1 Tuesday 21st April Istanbul: Welcome to Istanbul, where you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Tonight, meet your guide and the rest of your group.  Overnight Istanbul Day 2 Wednesday 22nd April Istanbul Old city After breakfast, you enjoy a fully guided tour of the only city to span two continents, visiting the Blue Mosque, the Aya Sofya, Topkapi Palace and the Hippodrome. Tonight you get to know your travelling companions a little better and enjoy some Turkish cuisine at your welcome dinner. Overnight Istanbul (B, L, D) Day 3 Thursday 23rd April Gallipoli Battlefields: Depart for the Gallipoli peninsula early morning and tour this now serene site.  Visiting original trenches and tunnels, ANZAC Cove, Lone Pine Australian Memorial, Chunuk Bair New Zealand Memorial, Johnstons Jolly and The Nek before a short ferry ride across the Dardanelles.  Overnight Guzelyali- Canakkale (B, L, D) Day 4 Friday 24th April Cape Helles Services, Troy (No accommodation tonight): Today, we visit the archaeological ruins of Troy. As soon as we are able, we will cross the Dardanelles to the Gallipoli peninsula and head straight to the Anzac area to secure the best spot possible.
Overnight ANZAC Cove (B, L) Day 5 Saturday 25th April ANZAC Day at Gallipoli At the ANZAC Dawn Service we will commemorate our fallen forefathers on this special day. We also attend the Australian or New Zealand Memorial services before returning to our hotel for some well deserved rest. Overnight Guzelyali / Canakkale (B, D) Day 6 Sunday 26th April Pergamum, Kusadasi Today we head south along the Aegean coast and on the way we enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent acropolis of the ancient city of Pergamum. Overnight Kusadasi (B, L, D) Day 7 Monday 27th April Ephesus Visit Ephesus, one of the world’s best-preserved ancient sites and the House of Virgin Mary.
Turkey produces some of the finest leather goods in the world and many are made here before branding in Italy.  We finish the day with a leather goods presentation before a short drive to Izmir for a flight to Istanbul. Transfer to Istanbul hotel on arrival. Overnight Istanbul (B) Day 8 Tuesday 28th April Istanbul After breakfast our tour concludes and we say goodbye to our new friends and are transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
