Hemis Monastery Ladakh

Day 1 Arrive Delhi
Arrive Delhi by International flight. Meet on arrival and transfer to hotel (rooms protected for immediate occupancy). Overnight at Delhi.

Day 2 Delhi – Leh
Early morning transfer to airport for flight to Leh, the capital of Ladakh (altitude 3505 m). Day free for acclimatization. Evening : Visit Shanti Stupa & Samkar Gompa. Overnight at Leh.

Day 3 Leh
Visit the Hemis Monastery, the wealthiest, best-known and biggest Gompa of Ladakh. It is situated on the banks of Indus and was built in 1630 during the reign of Singge Namgyal. Later visit the Stok Museum which has some fabulous displays including period costumes and jewellery of the royalty, along with exquisite Thankas (scrolls) representing the life of the Sakya Muni. Overnight at Leh.

Day 4 Leh
Visit the Thiksey, which is one of the largest and architecturally most impressive at all the Gompas. Later visit Shey, once the residence of the Royal family. According to tradition, Shey was the seat of power of the pre Tibetan kings. Overnight at Leh.

Day 5 Leh – Lamayuru – Leh
Full day excursion to Lamayuru, the oldest holy site in Ladakh, it was the Bon shrine prior to the advent of Buddhism. The Gompa has an impressive 11 headed 1000 eyed image of Avalokiteswara. 22 to 30 yellow sect monks live in this Gompa. Overnight at Leh.

Day 6 Leh
Visit Spituk Monastery, which stands prominently on the top of a hillock commanding a panoramic view of the Indus valley for miles. Later visit Phyang Monastery which houses three main temples. The alter, protected by a glass case, shelters many Buddhas among whom are Vairochana, Avalokiteswara of eleven heads and a thousand arms and Maitreya – the coming Buddha. Evening : Take a leisurely walk through Leh Bazaar. Overnight at Leh.

Day 7 Leh – Alchi – Likir – Leh
Full day excursion to Alchi & Likir. Alchi is unusual in that it is on lowland, not perched on a hilltop like other Ladakhi Gompas. The Likir Monastery is on the old caravan road from Basgo to the bridge of Khalse. Overnight at Leh.

Day 8 Leh
Drive to the Khardungla Pass (the highest motorable road in the world) situated at a height of 18,390 ft. Khardung La Pass is around 39 kms away from Leh. Evening: Cultural show at the hotel. Overnight at Leh.

Day 9 Leh – Delhi
Transfer to the airport to board your flight back to Delhi. Day free at leisure. Overnight at Delhi.

Day 10 Delhi
Morning: Take a tour of New Delhi visiting the Humayun’s Tomb, Qutab Minar, the Government Buildings, a drive through the majestic Rajpath to the India Gate, the Laxmi Narayan Temple. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight at Delhi.

Day 11 Depart Delhi
Today is free until your departure transfer.
